{Housewife Heart} is a project dedicated to educating myself and my readers on valuable causes. A few weeks ago, I asked friends and readers to send me causes and charities close to their heart. Out of those submitted, my husband and I chose a few that spoke to us in some way. I will highlight those and then let you, my readers, pick which cause receives a donation of $2,000. You can find further explanation of the project here.
While I tend to support domestic causes, The Gorilla has always had a pull towards Africa. In Charity: Water, we found a cause that we both agree on.
Like, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Charity: Water was nominated to Housewife Heart by more than one person. I was impressed by the website and the charity's clear objective. Of every cause I researched, the Charity: Water website was the easiest to understand. The outlined the problem, the solution, and told me exactly how a donation would be used.
Right now, almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. That’s one in eight of us. Charity: Water is a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. They use 100% of public donations to directly fund sustainable water solutions in areas of greatest need. Just $20 can give one person clean water for 20 years.
Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren't strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses.
A donation to Charity: Water would aid in the water sanitation and hygiene education that is desperately needed in developing countries.
