I had been wanting to make a jewelry tree ever since I saw the beautiful trees that Rachel made for her trunk shows. (Rachel is a jewelry designer and she just had a baby! Remember her baby shower?) So when we finished the bathroom remodel, I finally sat down on a Saturday and did it.
The way that she does it looks so nice that you could use it to hang jewelry (as I do) or just use it sculpturally in a room (as I've seen it done on HGTV). I'll leave the tutorial to her, and just show you my end results. Here's what it looked like after it set.
It's worth noting that I did it the lazy way and did not drill a metal rod for extra support. The plaster and strength of the tree were plenty for me, and would be even if I was hanging something heavier than necklaces.
I believe the tree part was $20 and the vase was around $9, both from Moskatels which is owned by Michaels craft stores. So for under $35, you have something really interesting. I've even seen similar things used as table centerpieces or funky wedding decorations.
It's so easy, so quick, and looks artsy. Try it!
