Last week I got the most unexpected compliment from the most unexpected source. It floored me. I thought about it most of the morning. I turned it around and around in my head. "She thinks that?" I thought. "Why would she think that?" and "Do other people think that?"
I've done the same self-analysis after being on the receiving end of, um, not as nice statements. Let's just say being shocked by a compliment is better than being shocked by an insult. So after I basked in it for a little while, I decided that the unexpected compliment idea should be shared. I love singing people's praises, but for the next little bit I want to make a conscious effort to tell people something I admire about them that maybe they don't hear every day.
I'm not going to make something up, I just want to dig a little deeper. The compliment that surprises you, those are the best ones.
