At the lake we are at least an hour away from the big city where there are makeup counters. Which means that in a pinch we have to rely on what's on the shelves at Wal-Mart or Walgreens. Since I cut my vanity product teeth at such establishments, I know which items are best and which are to be left behind.
Some things to pick up, no matter what your budget:
Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadows I wear the "Skinlights" palate.
These colors are a lot more sheer than they appear in their casing, and most of them have a hint of glitter to them. They're just the right of sparkle and low-maintenence for summer.
CoverGirl Eye Enhancers in Country Woods
These go on nice and smooth, and I can't think of a complexion that these colors wouldn't flatter.
L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara I like the curved brush in black. I have tried all kinds of mascaras and even if I lived next door to a marble-floored department store, this is the one I would pick up.
Olay Daily Facials Express Wet Cleansing Cloths I've written about these before, but I love them.
Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer With SPF and just a hint of shimmer, I like the way this moisturizer smells and feels.
L'Oreal Endless Lipcolour I have this is several colors (Naked Ambition and Really Rosie are my favorites) and it has great staying power, even if it can be a little drying if I don't use chapstick underneath. The color choice is vibrant and at half the price of other lipsticks, it's a lot easier to experiment with shades.
With these products, I feel like I can pull together a decent face. The only items that I don't have a drugstore standby option for are foundation and blush. I just haven't tried enough. Any suggestions? You tell me your favorite drugstore beauty purchases.
