Welcome to Mommy Mondays, my designated day to wax poetic about parenting.
We just returned from almost three weeks spent with my family, Christmas and New Years in Oklahoma, then a week of vacation in Colorado.
Pigtail was in hog heaven spending all that time with her cousins. On my side of the family, the nine cousins range in age from fourteen years to two months, seven of them under seven. This can be complete chaos, but it's also so fun to watch these little people who share DNA play together.
My older sister and brother are nine and seven years older than me, and growing up we didn't see our extended family very often. Even our good family friends all had children closer to my siblings' age than to mine. So I spent all holidays and vacations as the only one in my age group. It was okay because I am a loner by nature, but I did always wonder what it would be like to have constant playmates.
The Gorilla grew up and remains close to his cousins, one of them owns the lake house next door to ours, making the cove a family compound. I think it's so special that Pigtail and Pirate will have these childhood memories and lifelong relationships.
But it sure was quiet when we arrived home late Saturday.
