In 2009 and 2011, we were surprised by the biggest news of our lives - babies! In 2012, very, very sure that there would be no such surprise this year, we spent the weekend before Valentines Day in Vegas.
Now, let me preface by saying that Vegas is not my favorite place on earth. And yet, I keep finding myself there. But this weekend was different than any of my other Vegas trips. It was actually mellow.
If a Motley Crue concert can be mellow.
I wore leopard jeans that I stumbled across at Target, a black blazer from H&M, a thrifted chunky gold necklace, and black booties I've had for ages.
A concert in Vegas is such a one-off experience for me, there was no way I wanted to spend money on a new outfit. Plus, I'd heard there was going to be blood cannons.
You heard me. Blood cannons.
We stayed at the Hard Rock, had dinner with friends at Nobu, and for (almost) the first time in my life, I gambled. I liked the repetitiveness of the slot machine. I did not like it enough to sink much money into it, but I liked it enough to lose it all on Sunday morning on our way out the door.
But really, the highlight of the trip was the Motley Crue concert.
I shouted at the devil. I kickstarted my heart.
All of it.
Mick Mars is my favorite. Am I allowed to say that? I read The Dirt : Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band over the summer and came away with a clear affection for him, which only intensified after seeing him play.
The guy on the right got confused for a minute and thought we were at a KISS concert. The guy on the left wasn't confused at all. He knew exactly where we were.
All in all, it was a super great way to celebrate Valentines Day.
What, you don't think Motley Crue is romantic?
Happy Valentines Day to you! I hope yours is free of blood canons.
