Did anyone notice anything about House Beautiful's Kitchen of the Month?
Black, white, gold accents, warm wood. I suppose it's not the most original color palette in the world, and this isn't the best comparison picture, but my mouth fell open when I turned to this page. It's really, really similar. The exact same faucet, even.
I wonder who copied who?

This was a kind of a weird week, right? Elections, Daylight Savings, Mercury retrograde, everything just felt a little off. Was that just me?
Regardless, I had some great conversations this week that made me think and laugh and then think some more. Remember I'm trying to combat the lazy brain, so I'm very aware of feeding myself in that way.
I'm looking forward to more of that this weekend with my husband, as we celebrate a friend's wedding, and with my dear friend Shauna, who I haven't seen in much too long.
On the HH facebook page this week: I showed off the vintage dress I'll be wearing this weekend. It's been hanging in my closet for years, just waiting for the right occasion. You can be part of the HH facebook page here.

For your long weekend reading pleasure:
Gretchen Rubin, Rachel Held Evans, doing projects for a year is all the rage. This guy is going off the internet for a year. (Really going off, like not even using it to look up addresses, etc.) I have no idea how I would function. A few short months ago, this kind of thing wouldn't have even caught my eye. As a big, big, fan of the internet, it annoys me when people whine about it. But it's a roller coaster relationship, I suppose, because I'm all kinds of intrigued by his story. (The Verge) (Thanks for the link, Leigh!)
This is a very long piece. It's about potty training. It made me laugh until I cried. (Big Chief Tablet) (Thanks for the link, Lora Lynn!)
Can we discuss this? I'm all about comfort and function, but this has moved into late-night-QVC category.
Speaking of comfort and function, my column at allParenting this week was a tutorial on How To Wear A Circle Scarf. I made Nora model. I made Rachel take the photos. I basically outsourced the entire column. This is called "savvy" in the writing business.
This is the best thing I read this week. Warning: It's heavy. Warning: Elizabeth is brilliant, if you poke around her blog some, you'll figure this out quickly. Warning: lots of language. (Flourish In Progress)

I'm really excited about the One Day project I'm going to do next Wednesday, November 14.
Won't you please do it with me? You'll be glad to have this slice of life documented. There's no official sign up or opt in or anything, just use the hashtag #onedayHH to play along with us. There will be a giveaway for one of the participants, details to come on that.
Happy long weekend, HH readers!
