I hosted book club on Tuesday evening. Normally we're a Saturday morning type of group, but one of our founding members Nora (remember when I threw her a book release party?) was in town visiting from New York, so we made an evening exception.
I served spicy shrimp pasta that wasn't quite spicy enough, and I butchered The Pioneer Woman's rosemary rolls. But then we made s'mores in the fireplace, so all was well.

We had a great time dressing up and trick-or-treating on Halloween. Everything is just so much better with kids. Okay, not everything. But things like Halloween.
But also, people in LA are psychotic.

Things were a little bit quieter on the HH facebook page this week, mainly because I was writing a little more than usual.
I attended and wrote about the Courage In Journalism Awards, and I told you how to wear booties. So, you know, all things being equal.
For my usual insight and thought-provoking status updates, you can like the HH facebook page.

On a slightly more serious note, child sponsorship through World Vision is really important to me. Between now and the end of the year, I'm going to try and get children matched up with a sponsor, and also tell you other ways to get involved.
Here is my post yesterday with 8 7 little boys who are in need in Sri Lanka, in the area I visited this summer. For the record, I'm also a big advocate of helping close to home, too. Read this if you want to know how I feel on the subject.
If you have ever felt nudged to sponsor a child, please feel free to email me with questions. If you've already sponsored a child, I would love it if you would share any of my posts on the subject. This is a matter worth sharing.

For your weekend reading pleasure:
- Don't you just love Tsh from Simple Mom? This week I read her Ten Things I've Learned In 10 Years of Marriage, but then I fell down her rabbit hole and found an oldie that I also liked My Top 11 Blogging Tips.
- Seems I wasn't the only one who reacted strongly to the Krim family nanny murders in NYC last week. _____ That Door by Lil Blue Boo.
- I know, I know, I keep linking to Design Mom. Like almost every week. I can't help it, she's my blog crush right now. But then she showcased Kate's house, so maybe Kate is my new blog crush.
- But I also just discovered The Effortless Chic, who is here in Los Angeles. Isn't that blog lovely?

Do you have big plans for the weekend? We don't. It feels sort of strange, but in the very best way. Maybe we'll be productive, or maybe we'll just read and watch tv. I'm currently obsessed with The Twelve and Homeland. (Don't tell me a single thing that happens!)
Happy weekend, HH readers!
