**This was such a fun project. Participant's links are at the end of the post!**
On Wednesday, November 14 2012, I documented One Day in the life of my family. I encouraged others to join in, and in 24 hours there were more than 1,200 pictures using the #onedayHH hashtag on Instagram and twitter. More details are here, if you want still want to participate.
My day looked something like this:
7:10am / I'm the first to wake up. I throw on some sweats and wander downstairs for my morning ritual of caffeine, moleskine, and internet.
I am not usually the first one awake around here. It should be noted.
8:00am / The kids wake up. The Gorilla pulls himself out of bed to get them up and dressed. He does this every single morning, no matter what time they rise (usually around 7:30am). Typically I'm about 20 minutes behind them.
10:00am / Music class, our last of the fall semester. We've had a great 10 weeks together with our wonderful teacher, and we've made a few new friends.
11:00am / Back to the house for a nap (Pirate) and to grab a snack in the car (me).
1:00pm / Preschool pickup. In the car we call daddy, contemplate getting french fries (we don't), and discuss at length when we are on or not on the various freeway ramps.
1:30pm / Home for lunch and playing. I make hot ham and cheese sandwiches and do a little blog reading while eating. Hugs all around for the one who makes our day (life!) better.
1:45pm / The doorbell rings. Fed Ex delivers our daily package of awards screeners. Today it's The Lorax. The delivery guy tells me that screener season is insane for him. He has 90 screener stops in my neighborhood alone!
3:00pm / As soon as the kids go down for their nap, I drive to a coffee shop to get some writing done. Coffee + Food on Melrose is my new favorite spot.
My dear friend Cyndi owns Coffee + Food, and I accidentally end up talking to her more than I do writing. Whoops! (Totally worth it.) (Also worth it: the homemade pumpkin bread. Divine!)
4:30pm / Drive home in time for everyone to be up from naps and to enjoy a little snack time.
5:30pm / A bit of blogging for me, The Gorilla arrives home early because we have something this evening. He spends some time with the kids, including feeding and enjoying the fish in our ginormous fish tank. They do this every night (usually after dinner).
6:15pm / Dinner is started for the kids, The Gorilla and I are out the door, late.
6:30pm / Drive through Hollywood to Hollywood + Highland for a Producer's Guild screening of Life of Pi.
6:45pm / We grab a quick sushi dinner (only an appetizer for me, still full from the pumpkin bread!), and a glass of wine. One of the performers from Iris sat down the bar from us eating his dinner alone. We could tell from all his eyeliner.
We made the effort to go to this screening because there was a Q&A after with the Director Ang Lee, and also the producer, writer, and star. The Gorilla and I both really liked the movie and both also had a headache from the 3D. We also found it fascinating what the filmmakers had to say.
11:00pm / We are unnaturally tired and drive back through Hollywood talking about the movie and some about the kids. We toss around ideas for the weekend and talk about the wedding we just went to.
12:00am / By midnight we're home, have checked on the kids, and end the day right where we started it.
This was, by and large, a pretty typical day for us. Of course there were variables. I don't always hit the Dry Bar or Coffee + Food. Sometimes I have spend more time at the computer, or different days bring different errands. Most nights we spend the evenings at home with our kids, although I will say that we have things at night at least once or twice a week. But, in general, this was a good slice of what our life looks like right now, in November 2012.
The link-up is below. If you're a blogger, link up to your post URL if you have one. (I don't expect you to do this today - the linky is up through the weekend.) One of the lucky participants will receive a $75 gift certificate to Lisa Leonard designs.
If you're not a blogger, or just want to link up a picture, you can:
- Type in your first name and email (not displayed, this only goes to me), then go to your Instagram profile (Instagram.com/yourusername) and select the photo you want to use. Cut & paste that URL into the link form.
- The next screen will ask you for an image, since it doesn't automatically pull from Instagram. You can leave it blank, where we won't see an image, but the URL will still work, or you can choose the "upload from your computer" option so we can see your image. (Sorry that it's a two-part process, I couldn't find another way for it to work.)
The lucky winner of the linkup is Stylish Housewife!
Congratulations!! You've won a $75 gift card to Lisa Leonard online!
