I'm addicted to the recap. You can read my personal thoughts on 2012 here.
We started 2012 in Colorado with family. It throws me off a bit, to start this way. But I would never trade the time or memories.
In March, The Gorilla directed the opening sequence of the Kids Choice Awards with Will Smith.
In the late spring, we headed to our lake house where we hosted dozens of friends of family throughout the summer and fall. This place continues to be such a blessing and respite.
I had a birthday. I learned to drive the boat.
I went to the Type A Parent Conference. I took a road trip with my sister.
With all of that going on, we started and completed a cosmetic kitchen remodel.
And then, in August, I took a major leap of faith and traveled to the other side of the globe to Sri Lanka with World Vision. This was such an enormous part of my year.
This is me just moments after I found out that Shawn Smucker's aunt is the actual Auntie Anne from the pretzel company. My mind is still blown.
Immediately upon returning from Sri Lanka, we shot an episode of Animal Planet's Tanked at our home, which meant an absolutely enormous fish tank now resides in our man room. The episode should air in the next few months.
Pigtail started preschool, and The Gorilla started shooting his latest movie.
This fall was a big one for my family. We were heavily invested in the presidential election. Though the outcome was not what we had hoped, it was a cycle I will never forget.
October brought birthdays and Disneyland and shark parties.
We traveled to the east coast for a family wedding, and then again for Thanksgiving.
And then it was December. I threw a Santa & Me party at Americana at Brand, getting to meet up with bloggers and readers and, of course, Santa himself.
And we traveled to the lake house to host friends, and we unexpectedly traveled to Oklahoma to be with my sister. And we prayed a lot.
We arrived back in LA just in time to celebrate our first Christmas in California. And now we are here. The end of the year. I don't know how it happened, and I can't believe all that has happened, all at the same time.
Life seems busy when you're in it, but it really seems busy when you look back at the path. I'm grateful for the wandering path of 2012, and especially for the new people I've met along the way. New and deepened friendships have made all the difference in the year. I suppose that's always true.
I'm personally hoping for a slower pace in 2013, but I do not expect it. My other hopes, though, they're a little more reasonable. Love, joy, dreams, stillness.
