This post wasn't sponsored or perked in any way, I paid for my Artifact Uprising photo book in full. Just sharing something cool.
While I've been pretty loyal to Blurb and iPhoto books in the past, I recently tried a new company called Artifact Uprising. I have been following Artifact Uprising on Instagram for awhile, and love the minimal style. When I wanted to make a book of my Instagram photos from our press trip to Europe last year, I thought this would be a good place to start.
With kids, usually my mantra for getting photo books done is simply Get 'Em Done. I spend more time taking the photos I want, so that putting them into a book is easy and intuitive. This is especially true with Instagram photos because they're all square. But I wanted I try a different look, and Artifact Uprising has great quality and some products.
Artifact Uprising has a mobile app, so you can create Instagram books right from your phone, but I ended up doing it on the computer anyway. It was so simple, the layouts were clean, and I mostly did one photo on a page anyway.
When the book came in the mail, I couldn't be happier. The quality of the paper cover and the binding are both great. The paper has a matte finish, which really changes the look of your photos. It worked for this trip and the style of photos I was shooting especially.
The Instagram-friendly books and the regular softcover photo books are very reasonably priced. It gets quite a bit more expensive for the hardback photo books, but they look like exceptional quality. I haven't tried one of those yet, but I think I might.
They also make really cool gifts like this wooden photo box.
It doesn't bother me in the least that all of our family and travel photo books don't "match." We have a lot of iPhoto books, some hard cover, some soft, all different sizes. I've tried multiple services, all with their pros and cons. The most important thing is that we have the books, that I actually follow through with making them.
Right now Artifact Uprising is high on my list of things I love and want to use more. Poke around their site to get a feel for what they're doing, I think you'll like it.
